Okay, it wasn’t a tornado but the Museum of Australian History was hit by something as good as the evening before so on arrival we found it was closed .....

Three and a half hours drive, not on dual carriageways, over mountain passes, and you would be forgiven for thinking the three minute alert had gone up. Canberra is beautiful, but very empty - the centre is full of museums, galleries, and the parliament buildings old and new reside there. But nobody lives in the centre and there are no large shopping areas. So at weekends, its a ghost town.

Add to this the effect of the storm the night before, leaving sand, rocks, broken trees on the main roads you’d think it had been abandoned yesterday.

So we visited the Old Parliament building, then the New Parliament building and finally the National Art Museum to see the Egyptian exhibition..... no photos of the Egyptian exhibition though.

Followed by another three and a half hours drive back, stopping off for pizza en route.

Photographs of some of the day are here
